Creating an Article Title
The title of your article is the first thing most people will see when they’re searching the internet for information on a topic. Your title needs to capture their attention. But Total Apex Media doesn’t go for clickbait. We’re not that kind of organization. Keep it honest!
The title doesn’t have to be the first thing you create. If you’re writing directly in WordPress, enter placeholder text. That way, you can write your article and create the title to reflect the content more accurately.
Title Basics
- Length: Shoot for 50 – 100 characters. If it’s too long, Google may truncate (shorten) it.
- Keyword: Put the Focus Keyword near the beginning. It doesn’t have to be the first word, but it should be pretty close.
- It must make sense to a human reader.
Grab Attention
- Think about why the person might be looking for this information. Do they want to know how to do something? Are they looking for an update on something that happened?
- Include a Power Word and/or Positive or Negative Sentiment: You want to get a response from a potential reader. There are a lot of these words, but don’t stuff something in that doesn’t make sense.
- Include a number, if it makes sense. For example: “Winter Beauty Secrets: 10 Ways to Protect Your Skin”
Work Smarter, Not Harder
While we don’t encourage using AI for the article itself, an LLM (such as ChatGPT, Copilot, or Gemini) can make title creation much easier. Condensing your article down to 60 characters or fewer can be difficult. So, go ahead and ask your favorite AI Large Language Model to assist with that task.
Prompt: Please create a title for the following article. It should be formatted for Google SEO, 50-60 characters long, include the keyword “KEYWORD,” and a power word.
After giving the prompt, copy and paste your entire article into the LLM’s chat and wait for the magic to happen. The writer of this article favors Copilot. It usually gives a selection of possible article titles to choose from. You can further improve results over time by using the LLM and by providing it with examples of your own writing.
